The story

A story for little hearts

When Magnus passed, Ella Noir was only 3 years old, and our twin girls were only 2. They were too little to understand the permanency of death. They couldn’t understand how their baby brother could be there one night, wrapped in our home and our arms, and then suddenly be gone the next morning.

His absence shook them deeply. Ella Noir loved him so much, and losing him in a way she couldn’t understand led to panic attacks and night terrors. She was trying to make sense of something even adults struggle to carry. Some nights were so bad, we had to take her to the ER.

So my husband created the story of Super-Baby Magnus.

It became a way to help our toddlers understand both his absence and the legacy we are building in his name. In their story, Magnus is a superhero who helps save mommies and babies. It takes pieces of our real life, our love for him, our grief, our advocacy, and our hope, and turns them into something small children can hold onto.

As they grow, we know the story will grow with them. Someday, they will understand more of the symbolism behind it. They will understand that “saving mommies and babies” means honoring Magnus by speaking up, sharing what happened, and working toward change.
